Tell us the story of your book title. Was it easy to find, or did it take forever?
We were considering 4-5 different titles and ended up with only two to choose from. I asked my friends to imagine themselves in a bookstore in front of all the new releases. Imagine two books with each title. Which title does your hand reach for first, or possibly not at all? They all said the title Angels and Eagles made them want to stop and find out what the common link was between the two. That is how our title was born.
How did you feel when you first saw your book cover? Or when you first held it in your hands?
Elation is the word to describe this moment! It finally felt like our long road to having a printed book had now been accomplished. Also, frightened now that the book will not be loved by readers; after all, this is our baby (story) they will be judging.
Jayne’s sister designed the book cover, and we loved it right away. The muted images of the eagle and angel, which blend with the sky, suggest that the theme of faith might run throughout the story. It also gives a feeling of mysticism. Many tribes believe that eagles transport messages and prayers to and from the Creator. Most Christians believe that angels do the same. The creek in the picture is effective because it represents the town of Sugar Creek, and water plays an important role in the storyline for its healing qualities. The Crooked Tree was used by Indigenous tribes as a trail marker or map to guide them to an important location. The crooked tree in the story almost becomes another character in the book.
